BDO's United Kingdom and Irish divisions have officially united, establishing BDO LLP, a significant accounting and advisory entity poised to become one of Europe's largest professional services providers. This strategic amalgamation, finalized on July 4, 2026, aligns with the start of the companies' new financial year and integrates BDO Ireland's operations in Dublin and Limerick with BDO UK's extensive network of 17 offices. The newly formed firm anticipates an annual revenue approaching £1.1 billion (equivalent to $1.4 billion), boasting a workforce of approximately 8,500 individuals and a partnership comprising around 500 members.
This unification brings together two practices with a long history of close collaboration on international projects, shared talent development initiatives, and joint industry-specific ventures. Mark Shaw will continue in his role as managing partner for the combined entity, while Brian McEnery will remain as the regional managing partner for the Irish operations. This merger reflects a proactive response to the evolving demands of clients and the growing need for enhanced international cooperation within the accounting profession.
Shaw highlighted that the transformation within the accountancy sector is driven by changing client requirements and a desire for more integrated global operations. He also emphasized the profound impact of technological advancements and artificial intelligence on business models and the expectations clients have of their advisors. The consolidation of BDO UK and BDO Ireland is designed to address these shifts by fostering greater scale, expanding capabilities, and increasing investment capacity for future growth. Shaw views this as a pivotal moment, marking the beginning of an exciting new phase in the firm's development trajectory.
The integrated organization is committed to sustaining its investments across crucial areas, including exceptional client service, maintaining high-quality standards, developing cutting-edge digital tools, and fostering the professional growth of its personnel. BDO LLP will maintain its affiliation with BDO International, a vast global network generating approximately $11 billion in revenue. This international network spans 169 countries and territories, employing over 95,000 professionals across 870 offices worldwide.
McEnery underscored that this merger is founded on a shared organizational culture and mutual respect. He noted that clients will benefit from access to a broader network of specialized experts throughout the UK and Ireland. Simultaneously, employees will gain from increased opportunities for collaborative work, professional development, and long-term career advancement. He concluded by affirming that, collectively, they are constructing a more robust platform that will serve their clients, colleagues, and the future success of the firm.
